Sculptra Filler Treatments

Everything you need to know about Sculptra filler treatment

Do you want to learn more about Sculptra filler treatment and how it can help you achieve younger-looking skin? Here at Dermasurge Clinic, we offer Sculptra treatment to our clients. Below we explain what Sculptra treatment involves, where it can be used and all the important information you need to make a fully informed choice before you contact us for your initial consultation.

Why choose Sculptra?

As we age our skin loses its elasticity, meaning that it becomes thinner. As a result, we lose our youthful appearance. This is because wrinkles, fine lines and deep creases appear on the skin. Sculptra is an injectable dermal filler that can help with these issues and make skin appear younger looking once more.

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is an injectable facial dermal filler that replaces the collagen that has been lost due to the ageing process. The active ingredient, PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid) helps to stimulate the production of new collagen. The role of Sculptra is to fill out lines, wrinkles and folds that appear on the face.

Where can Sculptra filler be used?

So, where can Sculptra be used? It is used predominantly on the face to help to smooth and sculpt the skin. It will also add definition to the face and plump up the skin, giving it a more youthful appearance.

It can be used on the cheeks to both lift and add volume while helping to treat nasolabial folds, the lines that spread out from the sides of the nose. When used on the upper face it can help to remove forehead wrinkles and treat crows feet, the fine lines that appear around the eye area.

Sculptra treatment can be used to help with any deep marionette lines that are on the face. It can be used around the lip area, chin and jawline to add definition and volume.

The importance of the consultation

It is really important that before you embark on any cosmetic procedure that you receive a full consultation. Here at Dermasurge Clinic, this will involve Dr Hiba Injibar, Consultant Dermatologist and our founder, assessing your needs, evaluating your medical history and asking why you wish to have the procedure. They will also assess if you are suitable for the treatment. This is your opportunity to ask any questions and share any concerns that you may have. If suitable for the procedure, then the clinician will talk you through the next steps with you.

How does it work?

Sculptra is a dermal filler that is injected into the skin via the use of very fine needles. The skin that is injected will gradually become thicker, giving the skin a more plump appearance. This is usually achieved over several treatment sessions. A topical anaesthetic can also be administered to the skin prior to the injections.

More than one treatment

Most clients will need more than one Sculptra filler treatment session. Ideally, you should be evaluated at least two weeks post-treatment to see if further treatment is needed. If you have very deep folds or wrinkles then you will need more than one treatment session.

When you will see the results?

Directly following the treatment, you will not see any obvious results. Once any slight swelling has gone down your skin may look like it did before the treatment, but this is absolutely normal. In most cases, it will take two to three treatments before you start to see a difference in the appearance of your skin or after six weeks following the first treatment. This is simply because it takes time for Sculptra to work and to encourage new collagen growth.

Long-lasting effects

No cosmetic treatment will last forever, but Sculptra dermal fillers can last as long as three years. Eventually, the filler will be metabolised naturally by the body, so the skin will simply begin to lose elasticity once more. When this happens you will need to have further treatments.

The safety of Sculptra fillers

Sculptra treatment is safe, although every procedure does carry some risk. The formula itself is fully biodegradable and biocompatible, so it will not damage the skin or harm the body. It is allergy free and PLLA has been around and used in surgery for the past decade. The procedure itself is minimally invasive and has very few side effects such as minimal swelling and slight bruising, but these should resolve within a few days.

Is Sculptra filler treatment painful?

This is something that concerns many people. You may feel some discomfort when the needle is injected, but it shouldn’t feel painful. Some clients may also feel a slight burning sensation. However, the procedure should not be painful. An ice pack can be applied to the injected area following the treatment.

“As my skin is aging, Dr. Hiba is helping me improve and maintain the texture of my skin in ways that are very natural looking and age appropriate. Dr. Hiba is so professional and took the time to explain the process and ensured she wouldn’t freeze my face. Dr. Hiba is very easy to communicate with (as is her staff) and I am genuinely looking forward to having my procedures done.”
